600 people play Netball in the Cook Islands. Games are played on an inter-village concept during the season which usually runs from April to August, an annual primary school competition, social competitions and zone games where there is a competition among the islands making up The Cook Islands in a one day tournament held every four years.
The Netball facilities are owned by the villages and their clubs. These are all outdoor facilities with most of the villages having one court. There is an indoor court at the National Auditorium, owned by the Government and used by Cook Islands Netball Association.
Cook Islands Netball Association has a goal to take Netball to the top and make it the eminent sport for women once again in the Cook Islands. It is hoped this will be achieved through the development programme in place for youngsters and through the involvement of parents in the activities of Netball. Improving their national ranking is also important, to maintain the support of the community.
