Netball in New Zealand enjoys a proud heritage and widespread support from all New Zealanders. It is the number one team sport for women and is played widely by women of all ages and by a growing number of boys and men. There are over 120,000 registered members and a further 80,000 playing in social competitions nationwide. Netball is the largest participation sport in Secondary Schools.

Media coverage is extensive in the press, on the radio and on television. There are approx. 80 Netball matches televised a year. This coverage satisfies the public interest in the sport with live games consistently achieving Top 10 Ratings.
The competitive nature of the game in New Zealand has enabled the Silver Ferns and New Zealand U21’s to reach the pinnacle of Netball with both teams current or previous World Netball Champions.
