Message from the President

Message from Molly Rhone, Jamaica, President of the International Federation of Netball Associations

Dear all,

Preparations for the World Netball Championships 2011 are well under way. I along with the other IFNA Board Members visited Singapore in March and I can confirm that I was impressed with the progress made. Our hosts Singapore are known for their friendliness, warmth, charm and efficiency so it promises to be a truly exceptional Championships.  Tickets are on sale already and I would advise to book early.

Around the world Regions are holding qualifying tournaments to see who will compete in Singapore.  The standard and pace of netball continues to increase and competition amongst the top teams in the world is fierce. Recent examination of IFNA Rankings shows new teams emerging and existing teams having to play more regularly to retain their spots.

The next big competition is soon upon us with the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October.  Participating teams are busy with their training and the new purpose built stadium in Delhi promises to host some exciting close fought matches.

IFNA recently announced that the second World Netball Series will be held in Liverpool in November.  The world’s top six ranked teams will once again be on court to battle for medal winning positions in this Fast Net competition.  Fast Net, as the name implies, is a shorter, faster version of netball, developed by IFNA.  I can’t wait for those three action packed days, 19th, 20th and 21st November 2010. Again tickets are on sale already and it is best to book early to take advantage of the early bird savings.

I would like to extend a personal vote of thanks to all our IUA’s.  These unsung heroes and heroines use their holidays to fly around the world to officiate in netball matches on a voluntary basis. Our great sport would not survive without their commitment.

I would like to wish all those preparing for participating in the Commonwealth Games and the World Netball Series all the very best.

Kindest Regards

Molly.

IFNA President
