Netball in Israel continues to expand, with a second club launched in Jerusalem this month. Alongside the Modi’in club, created in 2008, the new side will join veterans teams in Israel’s new intercity netball league, which starts on 28 November. And, as the game takes further strides across the country, it has been announced that former Leeds Carnegie assistant coach Joan Young will join Israel’s team coach to select the country’s squad for next year’s Netball Europe championships at trials to be held on 21 November.
Botswana’s Motor Centre Netball League has reached the quarter finals stage, with the final eight teams meeting in Mahalapye on Saturday. Tasc, Phikwe Prisons, BOASA and Continental Aces from the north of the country will join BDF Cats, Notwane, UB Crystals and Flying Hawks from the south in two round robin groups, from which the top two teams will qualify for the competition finals to be played in Gaborone on 28 November for the top prize of P10,000 ($1,500 US).
Two former champions are tied at the top of England’s Premier 1 clubs competition, with Academy and Linden level with four wins from five matches. Meanwhile, in Premier 2, Leeds Carnegie and Leyton remain unbeaten, but that situation should change after this week, with the two sides meeting each other in a crunch match in Leeds.
Meanwhile, in Jamaica, reigning champions Windward Road and former champions John Mills are the first two qualifiers for the quarter finals of INSPORTS Junior High Schoolgirls Senior League competition. Windward Road defeated Stony Hill 32-5, while John Mills crushed New Day High 44-4.
Finally, Former Silver Ferns captain Adine Wilson has been signed as an ambassador for the Melanoma Foundation, to lead this summer’s SunSmart campaign. Wilson, who had a melanoma removed when she was 25, is advocating the campaign’s “Slip Slop Slap and Wrap” rules in activities across New Zealand.
